Lethbridge has seen consistent new business growth over the past ten years and is currently home to over 5,500 businesses. In fact, since the year 2000, the number of licensed businesses in Lethbridge has grown by a robust 49.3%. And in 2010, the number of business in Lethbridge grew by 5% year-over-year. With all of the business advantages in Lethbridge, it’s easy to see why companies choose this vibrant city as a home for business, family and investments.

Forty-one of the businesses in Lethbridge employ more than 100 people. Eight of the top ten employers in the Lethbridge area are public sector employers in health care, K to 12 education, government services or post-secondary education. 

These eight employers represent just over 10,000 workers. That translates into a stable local labour market that is not as susceptible to wide swings of worker surplus or shortage that some communities have experienced in the past three years.  The region’s largest employers also represent many other sectors: 

• twelve are in the retail or hospitality industry
• eleven are in transportation or manufacturing
• five are in agri-food.
