Message from the Mayor

My family emigrated to Canada from Yugoslavia. After a long ocean voyage and a three day train ride, we arrived in Lethbridge on July 1, 1957. I was a five year old when we moved to Lethbridge and, a few years later, my sister was born here. This has been our home ever since.

Lethbridge is uniquely situated; we are near the impressive Rocky Mountains and very near the U.S. border. The landscape is extremely beautiful and our weather is temperate. Our summers are not too hot and our winters are, for the most part, mild.

Lethbridge is divided by the Old Man River and the adjacent ‘coulees’ which provide an impressive and beautiful counterpoint to the prairie landscape. Our urban forest is second to none and our parks and other green spaces make the city an oasis in a prairie landscape.

Our citizens are friendly, and a trip to Lethbridge is an experience that is to be savoured. Visitors will encounter the beauty of our river valley and the ‘High Level’ bridge - a compelling and awesome structure. A visit to our art galleries, the Japanese Gardens, Fort Whoop-Up, the Helen Schuler Centre and Galt Museum provide food for the soul. Our many parks and recreational facilities ensure that our health and well being, and that of our visitors, are well taken care of.

We are also home to two premiere educational facilities, the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College, both of which also conduct important and renowned research in a variety of areas of human endeavour.

Our downtown is vibrant and welcoming. Our road system is well maintained and is designed to allow easy access to all parts of the City in a short period of time. The City is ‘open for business’ and is well served by a nearby airport and a wide variety of hotels and motels with first class convention facilities. Visitors have a variety of choices in terms of shopping, sight-seeing and engaging in recreational activities.

Lethbridge has been my home for many years..... I invite you to experience Lethbridge and I know that, once you have, you will come back for more!
