Garden of Serenity – Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden June Flanagan/Robert Hironaka and Van E. Christou
Prize Sponsor: Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden
Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden
Established during Canada’s Centennial in 1967, the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden was built to recognize contributions made by citizens of Japanese ancestry to the multi-cultural community of Lethbridge, Alberta, and as a symbol of international friendship. A place of sculptured beauty, it is a well-known symbol of Lethbridge and southern Alberta, enjoyed by thousands of local residents and international visitors each year. As an added conference experience, event and meeting planners can book traditional tea ceremonies and tours of the garden, and can also arrange pre-booked spousal activities.
About the publication Garden of Serenity – Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden
The adaptation of time-honoured principles from the mountain-and-sea culture of Japan to the Canadian prairie is quite a unique story. This publication presents the opportunity to discover the inspirational beauty and history of a garden that has come of age. Written by co-founder Robert Hironaka and horticultural author June Flanagan, the spectacular images that record the garden from inception to present are courtesy of Van E. Christou, renowned photographer.
