Chinook Health
Chinook Health will be leading the first of three new radiation therapy projects in the province of Alberta. Radiation therapy will be available to Southern Albertans and South Eastern British Columbia residents by spring 2010. Lethbridge was the first site in the province to provide a cancer centre. The centre was later moved to Calgary to meet the needs of the growing population in that city.
Chinook Health is pleased to be program host for Helping Operationalize Palliative Expertise, a $500,000 provincial project to support regions across Alberta to develop and enhance palliative care programs. The goal of the program is to teach health-care providers to support individuals who wish to receive end-of-life care in their own homes.
More than 90 percent of family physicians currently working with Southern Alberta are participating in the Chinook Health Primary Care Network - an initiative aimed at improving access to family physicians and reducing wait time. This is the highest participation rate in the province.

Green Acres Foundation
In 2003, an announcement regarding the impending closure of the hospital in Picture Butte prompted the development of a three-way partnership between the Town of Picture Butte, the Lethbridge Green Acres Foundation and Chinook Health to discuss alternatives in the delivery of care for the community. Through a true collaborative effort, it was determined that Green Acres Foundation would construct a new 15-unit Designated Assisted Living facility linked to their existing Piyami Lodge.
The new Piyami Place is a residential based facility that provides personal services, 24-hour supervision and assistance, activities and health-related services. In addition to the construction of Piyami Place, the east wing of Piyami Lodge was converted to an Urgent Care Centre complete with a physician’s clinic, x-ray, lab and homecare offices providing residents of Picture Butte with a unique alternative in the provision of health services.
