Team Lethbridge is heading to Edmonton

October 15, 2012

Lethbridge -

Lethbridge’s many strengths and opportunities – including a diversified economy, rich arts and cultural heritage, strong public sector leadership and industry strength – will once again be the topics of discussion when representatives from 18 city organizations travel to Edmonton during the third week of October to meet with Government of Alberta elected officials and their staff teams.

This is the third trip that Team Lethbridge will be making to further develop connections with government leaders.  Cheryl Meheden, board chair of Economic Development Lethbridge (EDL), says, “Since our first trip four years ago, we believe there has been a marked increase in communication with provincial government leaders and opposition members.  This improved connectivity is one of our goals.  Also, given our distance from the legislature and the important contributions Lethbridge is making in Alberta, it is valuable to take time to emphasize the assets of our community and learn more about how to work effectively with the provincial government.”

Team Lethbridge is composed of community leaders from 18 organizations who believe Lethbridge is an important contributor to the success of our province and by proactively communicating with government decision-makers, the city and the province can benefit.  Team Lethbridge consists of representatives from:

  • Aboriginal Council of Lethbridge
  • Allied Arts Council
  • Canadian Home Builders Association – Lethbridge
  • City of Lethbridge/Lethbridge Regional Police Service
  • Economic Development Lethbridge
  • Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Separate Regional Division No. 4
  • Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce
  • Lethbridge College
  • Lethbridge Construction Association
  • Lethbridge & District Association of REALTORS®
  • Lethbridge & District Exhibition
  • Lethbridge Family Services
  • Lethbridge Lodging Association/Chinook Country Tourist Association
  • Lethbridge School District No. 51
  • Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization
  • University of Lethbridge

Team Lethbridge will be meeting with GOA Ministers and officials on October 23, 24 and 25 to highlight the progressive work being undertaken in our city, express appreciation for the province’s commitments in Lethbridge and offer our support in building solutions for the future.  The team will also be participating in a reception hosted by Lethbridge College and the University of Lethbridge as well as hosting a breakfast with the opposition MLA’s and their staff.

EDL CEO Cheryl Dick adds, “Lethbridge is an innovative and progressive community with a diverse and strong economy.  As a team, we will communicate that in order to build on these strengths, our organizations need stable, robust funding and reliable government relations to ensure our service levels support a healthy, sustainable community.  This mission is an extension of each of our individual organization’s efforts to maintain regular communication with our government counterparts and we look forward to continuing the constructive discussions that started four years ago and continue today.”

The first trip of Team Lethbridge was made in October 2008 with 12 partners followed by a second trip in November 2010 with 16 partners. During that time, the group has continued to communicate with MLA’s and government departments through newsletters and meetings. The new partners joining for this trip are the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Separate Regional Division No. 4 and Chinook Country Tourist Association.

Team Lethbridge was initiated by Economic Development Lethbridge (EDL) in response to growing interest in working more closely with the Government of Alberta as well as increasing awareness and understanding of Lethbridge’s contributions within the province.
